One year ago I said "I do" to the most amazing and beautiful woman I've ever known. Happy anniversary to my wife, my best friend and the mother of our awesome daughter. This will just be the first of many wonderful years being married, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Popsicle.

Our daughter Elliott was born on Wednesday, July 27th at 8:57 pm. She was 6 lbs, 10 oz. and 20 1/2 inches.
After many hours of labor and pushing, she was face up and wouldn't come out which required an emergency c-section. She wasn't breathing when she came out and had acidosis. She's now breathing on her own and is doing much better, but may end up staying in the NICU for a while.
Shannon is doing well, just exhausted from many hours of labor and major abdominal surgery all packed into one day. Both mother and daughter are the most wonderful women I have ever met.
Pictures will be posted soon, but just so you know, Elliott is absolutely beautiful.

I'm very thankful for my wife. I think it is a very rare thing to find someone who you can have argument with and come out of it a better person than you went in. Even when she's upset with something I've done, she's always reasonably calm and is damned good at pointing out stupid things I've done without making me feel like too much of a douche for not realizing it earlier. The good times together are amazing, and even the speed bumps make me a better man. I wouldn't trade her for the world.
Also, it's very difficult to wrap my head around the fact that by Wednesday we'll have a daughter. She's still this animate bump (a very subtle bump) on the front of wife that annoys the hell out of her. Very soon she'll be an actual tiny little person I'll get to fall in love with. The absolute enormity of that is something I might not have really come to terms with, at least until today. To paraphrase Douglas Adams; "Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to having a baby."
I love you, my Shannon. The single best event of my life was meeting you, because of the enormity of awesomeness that has followed and will still follow. I can't wait to start our next chapter and I'll be with you every step of the way.

My daughter decided to make a very happy father last night. She decided to take a break from the constant kicking of her mother's bladder and swung around to take a few shots pointed outward.
So I got to feel my daughter for the first time last night. This is awesome.

|And in today's baby news...
We're going to have a daughter.
The anatomy scan ultrasound was this morning. Everything is perfect, healthy and feminine. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go squee and try not to get it on my coworkers.

It's Valentine's Day. Also, I have the most wonderful valentine in the universe. My wife is beautiful, funny, smart, sexy, thoughtful and in every way as perfect a partner to go through life with as I could dream of. And to top it off, she's doing all of the heavy lifting part of making us a baby to round out an already amazing family.
I love you, my Shannon. Happy Valentine's Day.

|Milestones of life
I went to my first gynecological exam this week. Also, I have now seen a wiggly little fetus I helped to make and have heard it's heartbeat. Twice.
I am in awe of the fact that my incredibly wonderful wife is in the process of making a complete human being
in her own body

|Looking for a good home
Anyone need some company?
A while back we purchased a couple of new additions to the household. I give you the Impulse Gerbils.
Unfortunately, what with my wonderful wife being in a John Hurt way combined with house-hunting/moving in the near future, it's going to be tough to take the time to properly interact with the cute little guys. They don't take up very much time at all for care, but it'd be nice to have them in a household where they'll get more attention than we're going to be able to give in the future. If you or anyone you know is interested, please drop us a line for more information.

There is a special level of hell reserved for people who begin their voicemail message with "Hello?(pause)".
There's an even specialer level of hell for those same people who don't listen to the voicemail you just left but return the call to ask why you called them.

Who wants to be our wedding bookie?
I'm sitting in my office and realize that I've had to very consciously stop myself from singing out loud along with the radio, SHOT THROUGH THE HEART AND YOU'RE TO BLAME... YOU GIVE LOVE A BAND-AID!
I do believe I've had a bit too much coffee this morning.

For christmas I want a remote control helicopter, a couple of cool Xbox games, and I promise to be extra-special good if I can have one of these.

In just a few weeks I will be standing next to the most beautiful and amazing woman I could imagine, surrounded by greatly loved family and friends. I will say those two simple words.
I do take you be my wife. I do want to be your husband. I do love you more than I ever thought possible. I do want to spend the rest of my life with you. I do want to be the one with you when they call for mommy and daddy. I do always want to wake up with you and fall asleep next to you. I do know that you are the best thing that has ever happened in my life.
There's going to be a lot jammed into those two words when I say them.

Remind me the next time we go kayaking that I have to remind Shannon to bring a camera. Apparently Chewie in his new life jacket is quite appealing, especially to other boaters. It also has a handle, which makes it very convenient to dip him in the water when it gets too warm.

|Local church fun
I pass a church on my way to work that has one of the fun changable letter signs in front. A while back it was:
JESUS CHRIST - THE LIGHT OF THE UNIVERSE - HUNG IN DARKNESS
That one made me giggle like a twelve year old boy. Then there was the old standby:
DOESN'T THE SONSHINE MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER?
This week, things have taken a dark and disturbing tone. Today:
HORROR AND GRIEF - JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS IN 1 DAYS.
All the letters in black, the number in red. Every morning I get to pass by the Good Friday Apocalypse Countdown to Horror and Grief.

|It is snowing.
Ever had an unwanted houseguest around for a few months and when they've finally left and you breathe a sigh of relief, they sneak back in and take a dump on your coffee table?
It's like that.
This is not awesome.
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.
